Skills learned on the job an not only used during emergencies in and around the pools but many of our lifeguards have utilized their skills outside of work.

  • Prepare for Future Careers

Working as a lifeguard is a stepping stone towards preparing for future careers. Besides offering the opportunity for growth within Aquatics or other City departments, this job is perfect for those wishing to build a resume and learn skills relevant towards pursuing careers in the medical field. Getting a job as a lifeguard will give you a “foot in the door” to advance within the City of Albuquerque into a full-time job. The City of Albuquerque is one of the top five in the nation for retirement benefits.

  • Staying in Shape

Not many jobs pay you to stay in shape or be physically fit, but this is definitely one of them. Lifeguards need to stay in shape in order to help ensure the safety of the people utilizing Aquatics facilities. This job is great motivation to stay working on your fitness!

  • Make Life Long Friends

Lifeguarding is a very fun and rewarding job that introduces you to a number of different people. The individuals within the diverse population you serve and those that you work with can go on to be some of the most important people in your life. These bonds can last a lifetime and are one of the best parts of this job!

  • Saving Lives & Serving the Community

Lifeguarding provides a unique opportunity in that it directly allows you to serve your community. You make your community safer by doing your job and ensuring the safety of pool patrons and their families. Aside from watching the waters, you can also show the members of our community how to swim no matter their age! Both lifeguards and cashiers can receive training to teach swimming lessons. When you teach someone how to swim, you are giving them skills they can use to save their own life or another’s. Working within Aquatics also gives you the opportunity to improve the quality of life for our users through recreation and physical fitness.

  • Can’t Swim?

If you aren’t built for water, that’s okay! While  Aquatics is always looking for lifeguards to be first responders, we are always looking to hire other staff as well. Aquatics needs cashiers as well as labor workers to help run its facilities. It takes more than just lifeguards to operate a swimming pool.
