Albuquerque has dozens of public tennis courts for everyone's enjoyment. Our warm weather makes Albuquerque an ideal place for a game of singles or doubles, and introductory lessons are available starting at age five through adult.

Whether you are a beginner or an old hand, make plans for some time on the court.

Tennis Class Descriptions

  • Basic Coordination: Students focus on being comfortable on the court and learning how to move, interact and work on timing.
  • Entry Level Play: Learning foundational skills with the racket i.e. grip; hand placement, footwork, and bettering/applying said skills
  • Intermediate Play: Learning how to play the game and be comfortable enough to move around a larger court confidently (keeping score).
  • Advanced Play: Developing match play skills, match based knowledge and confidence with keeping score correctly.
  • Entry Level Adult: Learning basic foundational skills, basic match play skills, and developing correct form.
  • Skilled Play: Refining form and expanding on knowledge based play and strategies.
  • NJTL: 6 week camp where students will learn things such as match confidence and match play skills while learning how to be a team player.
  • JMP: Students interested in continuing to develop skills centered around tournament/match play from a competitive level of play.

Spring Lessons at Jerry Cline & Sierra Vista

  • Registration begins January 6th at 8:00am 
  • Saturdays, February 10th -March 30th
    • 9:00 a.m.
    • 10:00 a.m.
    • 11:00 a.m.
  • 50 minutes each
  • Adult & Junior
  • Not all skill and age levels are available every hour.
  • Proof of age (birth certificate) may be required for children joining 5- to 7-year-old classes.

Summer Lessons 

  • Registration begins May 4th at 12pm online at play.cabq.gov.
    Staff at Jerry Cline Tennis Center or Sierra Vista Tennis Center are also happy to help people who cannot register online.
  • Summer lessons will be held between June 3rd and August 2nd. Please check play.cabq.gov for specific dates. 
  • M-F - Lessons, National Junior Tennis League, and Junior Match Play
    • Lessons - 8:00am, 9:00am, 10:00am 
    • NJTL - 9:00am-11:30am
    • JMP - 11:00am-12:30pm 
  • Classes limited to six participants.
  • Adult & Junior
  • Not all skill and age levels are available every hour.
  • Proof of age (birth certificate) may be required for children joining 5- to 7-year-old classes.

Fall Lessons at Jerry Cline & Sierra Vista

  • Registration begins August 3rd at 8:00am 
  • Saturdays, September 7th to October 26th
    • 9:00 a.m.
    • 10:00 a.m.
    • 11:00 a.m.
  • 50 minutes each
  • Adult & Junior
  • Not all skill and age levels are available every hour.
  • Proof of age (birth certificate) may be required for children joining 5- to 7-year-old classes.

Drop-In Tennis 

Drop-In Tennis is informal, friendly tennis play sponsored by the City of Albuquerque and run by the Jerry Cline Recreation and Tennis Center.

Ball Machine Rental

Both the Jerry Cline Recreation and Tennis Center and the Sierra vista Tennis Center have ball machine rentals.
