Welcome to the Southeast Area Command. The Phil Chacon Memorial Substation was recently renovated and officially re-opened to the public on January 31, 2025. The substation was named after Officer Phil Chacon who was killed in the line of duty in September of 1980.
Our patrol officers are divided into Watch Commands, providing day shift, swing shift, and grave yard coverage for emergency calls for service. In addition to patrol officers, the Southeast Area Command also has our Problem Response Team (PRT) Officers, who conduct proactive enforcement in crime areas, and community engagement and outreach. Additionally the Southeast Area Command has Crime Prevention Specialists that are available to work with residents and businesses in taking steps and measures to reduce crime and increase quality of living.

About the Southeast Area
The Southeast Area Command is a diverse and vibrant area of the city. Neighboring the International Airport and Kirtland Air force Base, the Southeast Area Command is home to a historic shopping and business district in Nob Hill, and home to the International District which promotes so many different cultures and ethnicities. The Southeast Area Command spans from San Mateo, east to Eubank and I-40 south to the city limits.

Meet the Commander
The Southeast Area Command is overseen by Interim Commander Lawrence Monte.
Interim Commander Lawrence Monte began his law enforcement career with the Albuquerque Police Department in 2009 as a Patrol Officer. Over his seventeen-year career, he has served all Area Commands and a number of specialized units as both an investigator and as a supervisor.
Career highlights include serving with the Crisis Negotiation Team, as a Detective with the Impact Unit investigating felony level crime, and as a Detective with the Homicide Unit. His leadership roles have included Sergeant in both Field Services and Internal Affairs, Police Reform Bureau before returning to patrol with his promotion to Lieutenant. Most recently, Commander Monte, was a Lieutenant with the Metro-Traffic Division, DWI Section.
As the Interim Commander, he brings his vast and varied experience and problem-solving capabilities to the Southeast Area Command. He looks forward to working with the community to expand existing partnerships, introduce innovative strategies to address concerns, and diligently collaborate with the Southeast community to achieve results.
