Description
Come celebrate otters at the Aquarium! Did you know that hunting nearly wiped out the North American river otters in New Mexico? Learn about them as well as sea otters through discovery stations, themed crafts, games, and Otter Story Time. Watch resident North American river otters Chaos, Mayhem, and Dixon participate in a training session, narrated by their animal care team and volunteers.
For our 2025 celebration the BioPark is pleased to welcome community partner Amigos Bravos, a non-profit organization committed to protecting and restoring the waters of New Mexico. In addition to an information table at the Aquarium, they'll be giving special presentations in the Education Building in the courtyard. You'll learn how to tell the difference between river otters and muskrats or beavers during your nature adventures; how they swim and look in the water, general characteristics, their tracks and even their scat! A detailed 20-page river otter identification guide is yours to take home. Read more about Amigos Bravos and the reintroduction efforts of the North American river otter to New Mexico at their website. Schedule for the presentations is below.
