Description
This year's annual Drafts for Giraffes celebration will take place during Zoo Music at the ABQ BioPark starting at 6 pm.
Before the music starts, head over to the shuttle loading station across from the giraffe habitat and grab a special brew! $1 from every tall can alcoholic beverage and every draft sold during the event will go toward giraffe conservation.
Join our giraffe care team to explore bio-facts, learn about the unique anatomy and life history of these fascinating animals, and find out how you can help save them. You'll also get to know more about the herd that calls the BioPark home, and at 6:15 pm you can get an up-close look at June, Buccaneer, Camilla, and Niara as they enjoy their dinner.
Fun facts: How does a giraffe drink?
- Giraffes need to splay their legs and lower their long necks in order to sip from a watering hole.
- Using their tongues, giraffes pump water up their throat, which can hold over a gallon of water on the way up!
- Giraffes don’t have to drink a lot of water—they usually get enough moisture from the hundreds of pounds of leaves they eat every day.
