Commander Arturo Sanchez

Commander Arturo Sanchez started with the Albuquerque Police Department in 2001 after lateraling from Roanoke City, Virginia, where he started his law enforcement career.  He worked as an officer in Field Services Bureau (FSB) until 2008 in Southeast, Valley, Foothills and Southwest Area Commands. During that time, he served as a field training officer, Emergency Response Team (ERT) Officer, Crisis Intervention Officer, Gang Suppression Officer, and was an Impact Detective in the Southeast Area Command.

He was promoted to sergeant in 2008 and supervised teams in FSB in different area commands.  He served as a Field Training Coordinator and Emergency Response Team Sergeant. 

He was promoted to lieutenant in 2014 and supervised teams in FSB, served as one of the Emergency Response Team lieutenants, and worked in Operations Review as the Operations Review Lieutenant.

Commander Sanchez was promoted to commander in 2018 and spent the last three years in the Special Operations Division (SOD).  During that time he supervised the Tactical Section and was the project lead for numerous Court Approved Settlement Agreement (CASA), in particular those that were specific to SWAT, K9, and EOD.  As the lead of those paragraphs he was highly involved in the reform efforts for the Division.  Commander Sanchez is also the lead on CASA paragraphs pertaining to community engagement and is involved with different processes for community engagement.

Commander Sanchez was born in Juarez, Mexico and raise in Southern New Mexico.  He graduated Deming High School and served in the military.  He received a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Wayland Baptist University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
