Chief Operations Officer Patrick Montoya

Patrick Montoya, formerly the Director of the Department of Municipal Development, comes into the role of Chief Operations Officer with over five decades of management experience and extensive knowledge of City government and operations.

Montoya has broad experience in education and in government, and has held positions of increasing responsibility at the State, Federal and municipal levels. He started his management career as the Director for Head Start in Santa Fe, and prior to working at the City, Mr. Montoya served as an aide to U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman, where he worked on a broad portfolio of issues. He also served as the Secretary of Transportation at the New Mexico Department of Transportation and the Division Director for the State’s Labor Department.

At the City, he’s worked for a variety of departments and held several positions that have prepared him with broad experience for this new role, including Director of the Department of Municipal Development, which manages all construction and road projects in the city, as a Capital Improvement Program Official, where he was responsible for the coordination, planning, and implementation of the City’s Capital Improvement Program, and also as the Deputy Director of the Department of Family and Community Services.
