2023 Neighborhood Open Space: Community Concerts
Join us for a totally free all ages, family-friendly evening event highlighting great musical artists and performers. Bring a chair or blanket, picnic dinner, and enjoy free entertainment, paletas, face painting, bosque traveling exhibit truck, rock climbing wall, hands-on nature activity, and incredible views of your public lands under the light of the setting sun.

2023 City Nature Challenge: Community Science in Your Neighborhood and Beyond
City Nature Challenge (CNC) is an international effort to find and document plants and wildlife in cities around the world. CNC Albuquerque focuses on the Middle Rio Grande Valley and includes observations made in Sandoval, Bernalillo, and Valencia counties. April 28 – PNM Piedras Marcadas Canyon: Guided Hike, 5:30pm to 6:30pm
You’re invited to participate in a guided hike with educators from Open Space Division and Petroglyph National Monument to explore our local plants and animals on the Piedras Marcadas Canyon Trail. Enjoy a beautiful sunset surrounded by all the West Mesa ecosystem has to offer.
April 29 – Elena Gallegos Open Space: Guided Hike, 1:30pm to 3:30pm
You’re invited to participate in a guided hike with educators from Open Space Division to explore our local plants and animals at the Elena Gallegos Nature Trail. This area offers amazing views of the Sandia Mountains while we hike the pinion-juniper habitat of this native landscape treasure.
April 29 – Open Space Visitor Center: Discovery Day Program, 3:00pm to 4:00pm
April 30 – Tingley Beach Bosque Open Space: Guided Hike, 10:00am to 12:00pm
You’re invited to participate in a guided walk with educators from Open Space Division to explore our local plants and animals at Tingley Beach Open Space. This event is in an ADA and stroller friendly area for all to enjoy the diverse Rio Grande riparian ecosystem.
May 1 – Tijeras BioZone Education Center Open Space: Guided Hike, 5:30pm to 7:00pm
You’re invited to participate in a guided hike with educators from Open Space Division and Talking Talons Youth Leadership to explore our local plants and animals at the Tijeras BioZone. Enjoy an evening with the local community as we stroll through the Tijeras Creek riparian zone and share the beauty of the foothills.
Program is free, no registration required. Meet at the parking lot trail head at the "City Nature Challenge Albuquerque Event Meets Here" sign. Program takes places rain or shine. Dress in layers appropriate for a short hike on a sandy trail. Wear closed-toed shoes and bring your smartphone with the free iNaturalist app or SEEK app installed on your phone. (Available on both Google Play and the App Store.) We will also have mini-tablets available to use for the event if you do not have a smart phone.
