Information about Open Space Youth Programs.

Open Space youth programs promote creativity, problem solving, enhanced cognitive abilities, improved focus, stress relief, social interactions and exposure to real-life opportunities. All in the heart of Albuquerque at the Open Space Visitor Center and surrounding major public Open Space lands.

Registration & Schedules

Saturday Explorer Camp, ages 6-10

This three-hour program is offered monthly during the school year at the Open Space Visitor Center and includes hiking and outdoor exploration, hands-on science, literacy, and art activities. Different themes take place each session. Child should attend camp prepared to explore the outdoors. Program taught by an Open Space Educator and Education Assistant.

School Break Explorer Camp, ages 6-10

This multi-day program is offered during Fall Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break at the Open Space Visitor Center and includes hiking and outdoor exploration, hands-on science, literacy, and art activities. Different themes take place each session. Child should attend camp prepared to explore the outdoors. Program taught by an Open Space Educator and Education Assistant.

Summer Explorer Camp, ages 6-10

Kick off summer vacation with this weeklong, full-day program at the Open Space Visitor Center that includes hiking and outdoor exploration, hands-on science, literacy, and art activities. Before and after care available. Child should attend camp prepared to explore the outdoors. Program taught by an Open Space Educator and Education Assistant.

Outdoor Field School, ages 11-14

This multi-day, full-day, summer program allows tweens/teens to explore and learn about the natural world through fun, hands-on science outdoors at the Open Space Visitor Center. Youth learn essential skills used by wildlife biologists and foresters using real scientific equipment to observe and measure the environment. Program taught by an Open Space Educator and Education Assistant.

Youth Conservation Program for Teens and Young Adults

We offer a variety of opportunities for motivated and self-directed teens looking for an authentic environmental conservation project. We also offer a summer youth conservation corps program for teens and young adults interested in gaining real world conservation work experience in an educational setting as either a crew member or crew leader.
