ALBUQUERQUE, NM — On Wednesday September 30, Mayor Tim Keller with Albuquerque City Councilors Klarissa J. Peña, Renée Grout, and Stephanie W. Telles—alongside representatives from the City’s Solid Waste Management Department, Transit Department (ABQ RIDE), the Office of Civic Engagement, and local car club volunteers—will host an official launch event and press conference for the newly established Cruisers for Route 66 Program.
Enacted under Council Resolution R-26-22, the initiative is a two-year pilot program empowering local car clubs, neighborhood associations, civic groups, and community organizations to adopt and beautify sections of Central Avenue. Modeled after the City’s successful Adopt-A-Median and Adopt-A-Stop initiatives, the program leverages community stewardship to prepare and maintain the nation’s longest continuous urban stretch of Route 66 for its 100th anniversary.
