Unearth a Story™ During Public Library’s Summer Reading Program
Discover hidden tales, connect with neighbors, and enjoy free fun for all ages.
The Public Library of Albuquerque-Bernalillo County invites readers of any age to dig into its 2026 Summer Reading Program. This free community-wide initiative encourages participants to explore books, uncover new ideas, and connect with stories all summer long.
Online registration for the program, which runs May 30 through July 25, is open at abqlibrary.org/summerreading. This year’s theme, Unearth a Story™, highlights the joy of discovery through reading and celebrates the idea that everyone has stories waiting to be revealed and shared.
"There is so much more to a story than what you see on the cover,” said Public Library Director Kate Alderete. “This summer we challenge everyone to dig deep and find something life-changing. Whether you’re five or 85, a new world is always waiting just beneath the surface."
The Summer Reading Program kicks off at library locations across Albuquerque with performances, games, and engaging activities for all ages. Highlights include visits from local performers and artists, storytelling experiences, and events that celebrate the unique voices and histories of our community. The fun continues throughout summer.
“Join the Summer Reading Program and avoid ‘summer slide,’ when reading skills can fade,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Keeping kids connected to books over break helps set them up for success when they get back to school in the fall.”
The Summer Reading Program is made possible by support from Friends of the Public Library and dedicated community sponsors.
