Tadpole Springs Keeps the Fun Flowing Into Fall

ABQ BioPark’s splash pad remains open through Oct. 11

August 18, 2026

After a busy inaugural season welcoming thousands of splashers, Tadpole Springs at the City’s ABQ BioPark Aquarium will move to a weekend-only schedule after Labor Day.

Tadpole Springs offers more to love about the BioPark, combining imaginative play with a refreshing way to cool off during Albuquerque's hottest months. Beginning Tuesday, September 8, the popular fountain will be open weekends only through October 11, weather permitting, with operating hours generally from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"With temperatures climbing, we want to provide plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors and cool down," said Mayor Tim Keller. "Tadpole Springs has quickly become a popular stop at the BioPark.”

The transition to weekend operations aligns with cooler fall temperatures while giving visitors to the Aquarium and Botanic Garden additional opportunities to splash and play through the end of the season.

"Tadpole Springs exceeded our expectations during its first year," said ABQ BioPark Operations and Event Manager Adrienne Boggs. "There were many days we saw it over capacity with folks enjoying a break from the heat."

Located just outside the Aquarium's Shark Reef Café, Tadpole Springs features cattail-inspired water elements, comfortable seating for caregivers, and family-friendly amenities designed to encourage outdoor play and exploration.

Guests are encouraged to book their splash pass online in advance and be prepared for schedule changes due to weather. More information is on the Tadpole Springs website.

Tadpole Springs is one of several City resources helping residents beat the heat. Across Albuquerque, Parks & Recreation also operates public spray pads, swimming pools, and other cooling options throughout the summer.
