Shemekia Copeland Brings Fearlessness to Blues Night on Civic Plaza
Free event features local and national talent
Blues Night on Civic Plaza returns September 13 with an electrifying lineup headlined by multi-Grammy nominee and internationally acclaimed vocalist Shemekia Copeland. Known for her fearless, soulful sound, Copeland has earned worldwide acclaim as one of the most powerful voices in modern roots music.
Green is a recent New Mexico transplant who brings Chicago blues grit and a unique Hendrix-inspired style to the stage. He has toured internationally, shared the spotlight with blues legends, and continues to captivate audiences with his unmistakable voice and harmonica mastery.
At 7 p.m. New Mexico’s own The Pleasure Pilots keep the energy going with their signature blend of rhythm and blues. Beloved for their soulful renditions of classics by Amos Milburn, T-Bone Walker, and Albert King alongside originals, the award-winning all-star group has become a festival favorite throughout the Southwest.
Copeland takes the stage at 8 p.m. Hailed as “the greatest female blues vocalist working today” by the Chicago Tribune, Copeland’s extraordinary career has spanned more than two decades, from her celebrated debut album at age 18 to recent recordings that blend rock, blues, and soul with her commanding voice and uncompromising artistry. She has shared the stage with music icons including Bonnie Raitt, Keith Richards, and B.B. King, and has performed for audiences around the world.
“Having the Jazz Festival on Civic Plaza brings folks from all over the city together to enjoy downtown,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Albuquerque is a great place for live music, and this concert is the perfect way to spend one of the last evenings of summer together.”
Blues Night on Civic Plaza is free and open to the public. Food trucks and a cash bar will be on-site. Guests are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets and arrive early to secure their spot on the plaza.
