Guadalupe Art Show Marks 98 Years in South Broadway Community

Show opens at South Broadway Cultural Center on Dec. 8.

December 5, 2022 - A community art exhibition honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe opens at South Broadway Cultural Center on Thursday, Dec. 8 with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. The show features contemporary works and traditional retablos with a community altar by the Salazar family of Los Guadalupanos of St. Francis Xavier Parish.

This year's exhibition marks the 98th year the South Broadway community has commemorated Our Lady of Guadalupe's first apparition. She introduced herself to Juan Diego as the Mother of God and the mother of all humanity when she appeared on the hill of Tepeyac in Mexico in 1531. It also marks the 28th year in its present gallery.

Related events include the blessing of the altars in the neighborhood on December 10 from 2 to 5 p.m. and Los Guadalupanos procession on December 11 following 10 a.m. mass.

The art show will be on display through December 26.

South Broadway Cultural Center hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
