Family Picnic Night at the Botanic Garden Promises a Memorable Evening with Nature and Live Music

The ABQ BioPark is excited to announce the return of Family Picnic Night at the Botanic Garden. An evening of fun and togetherness awaits families, friends, and nature enthusiasts on Friday, August 11 from 5 to 9 p.m. The event includes food, live music by local bands, and activities for all ages. Live entertainment on the Festival Green Stage begins at 5:30 p.m. with Baracutanga, a 7-piece band representing Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, and the US, whose exciting and distinct Latin flavor keeps crowds dancing. Nosotros takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. The popular 9-piece Latin music powerhouse seamlessly combines Latin rhythms with elements of rock, salsa, jazz, and cumbia to create an unforgettable sound.

Food and drink will be available for purchase from the Shark Reef Café and at various snack stands. The Wildflower will offer hotdogs, pretzels, green chile corndogs, ice cream, cotton candy, and more. Beer, wine, and cocktails will be available for purchase at Vitex, High Desert, Shark Reef Café, and the Festival Green. Guests are welcome to bring their own picnic as well.  

Guests of all ages can enjoy various activities including interactive Discovery Stations throughout to free face painting in the Ceremonial Garden. The BUGarium will be open during Family Picnic Night until 8:30 p.m. The immersive exhibit engrosses guests in the fascinating lives of arthropods. The complex features naturalistic habitats designed to reveal the unseen wonders of bugs from around the world. The Aquarium will also be open, however, the Butterfly Pavilion will be closed.  

Guests are welcome to bring chairs, coolers, and picnics. Glass containers, alcohol, tents, sports equipment, and canopies are prohibited. Pets are not allowed at the ABQ BioPark. Last entry will be at 8 p.m.

Limited parking is available at the Botanic Garden. Free parking will be available at the Zoo. Free SunVan shuttles will take event-goers to and from the garden throughout the event. SunVans are handicap accessible. Strollers, lawn chairs, and coolers are allowed on shuttles. Glass items or alcohol are not permitted on shuttles or inside the ABQ BioPark.

For those on two wheels, there will free Bike Valet provided by Esperanza Bike Education Center. The Botanic Garden is easily accessible from the Bosque Trail.
