Echoes of Albuquerque: A Collective Dialogue Opening at Gallery One
New art exhibition delves into community and collective growth.
Echoes of Albuquerque: A Collective Dialogue, the latest exhibition at City Hall’s Gallery One, features work from the artist group Alchemy Walls. The exhibition will open Thursday, August 28, with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m.
Alchemy Walls is a collective of muralists who support one another in individual artistic growth. They combine their creative talents to engage with communities through public art. Participating artists include Heather Marie Bergerson, Amaris Feland Ketcham, Chris Martinez, Roxy Tocin, and Andrew Fearnside.
Through Echoes of Albuquerque: A Collective Dialogue, Alchemy Walls envisions a future where community, creativity and accessibility are the shared paradigms for public policy. The exhibition invites visitors to join in manifesting this future by adding to Symbiosis, its large-scale, open-ended cloud poem; to walk with some of the thorny questions about community, creativity, and accessibility bubbling within its Archive; and through the artwork of Accessibility to include differently abled people in their perceptual communities.
Using pieces consisting of video, 2D works, a 3D sculpture, and a mural, this exhibition strings together unique local voices and stories and the impact of collaboration on daily life. The artists use techniques like hand lettering, print work, fiber art weaving, and more.
“Echoes of Albuquerque demonstrates our various collaborative methods,” said Alchemy Walls, “including direct collaborations with our communities, direct visual dialogue among ourselves, and the indirect, interior processes of each artist.”
Echoes of Albuquerque: A Collective Dialogue will be on view through October 3. The opening reception and exhibition are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Gallery One is located on the first floor of City Hall at 1 Civic Plaza NW.
