All Age After-Hours Event Continues at the Balloon Museum

February 19 S.T.E.A.M. Night celebrates Elevation Station.

February 13, 2022 - The Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum recently kicked off its new monthly evening event, S.T.E.A.M. Nights at the Balloon Museum with the theme Bubbles and Bubbly. This month, S.T.E.A.M. Nights return with more hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, art, and math for visitors of all ages.

S.T.E.A.M. Nights at the Balloon Museum takes place on Saturday, Feb. 19 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with a celebration of Elevation Station, the museum’s new interactive, hands-on exhibition for the young and young at heart. Designed by a team of experts from Explora and Electric Playhouse, with help from Caryn Welz and ballooning legends, father-daughter team Troy and Savannah Bradley, this exhibit incorporates interactive gameplay with projection mapping, touch tables, immersive experiences, and hands-on exploration.

“We are thrilled to host this S.T.E.A.M. Night with some of our favorite partners – Explora and Electric Playhouse” Museum Manager Nan Masland said. “You won’t want to miss out on the interactive activities and performances!”

During this after-hours event, the Balloon Museum, along with partners Explora and Electric Playhouse, will celebrate the new exhibit by hosting engaging experiences throughout the museum for visitors of all ages. Downstairs, visitors can visit the Elevation Station exhibit; catch one of two Air Under Pressure science demos by Explora; try hands-on activities where they can investigate the math behind a hot air balloon pattern with mirrors and colors; engineer a paper balloon; or discover the power of air with wind tunnels. Upstairs, visitors can enjoy music from a local DJ, snap a selfie in a real hot air balloon basket, and try interactive projection gameplay with Electric Playhouse. Visit the museum’s lawn to see the radio-control hot air balloon light up the night or grab a bite from a local food truck.

Tickets will be sold at the door, but space is limited. Pre-purchase your tickets at cabq.gov/balloon/events. Admission to the event is $6 for adults ($5 with New Mexico ID), $4 for seniors 65 and older, $3 for youth ages 6 to 17, and free for children 5 and under.
