Requirements: Open Water Scuba Diver certified, 25 logged dives, physician clearance
Minimum time commitment:
12 dives within a calendar year

The ABQ BioPark is looking for Open Water Certified Diver volunteers to help keep our animal habitats clean for both our animals and our guests!
Interested volunteers are required to provide documentation of the following requirements, as well as demonstrate that they are physically able to perform the duties of the dive in the Aquarium ocean habitat.
Rules and Requirements for Ocean Habitat Divers
- Provide proof of certification compliant with the ISO 24801-2 Level 2 Autonomous Diver standards
- Provide proof of a minimum of 25 logged SCUBA dives
- Provide proof of medical clearance to dive dated within one year
- Provide Emergency Contact information
- Provide records showing current servicing (dated within one year) for the following equipment:
- 1st Stage Regulator
- 2nd Stage Primary Regulator
- 2nd Stage Alternate Regulator, if applicable
- Buoyancy Compensator Device
- Read and agree to ABQ BioPark Diving Safety Manual
- Read and agree to ABQ BioPark Volunteer Diving Manual
- Collection or removal of animal teeth or scales is not permitted
- Follow the direction of the designated leading diver at all times
- Volunteers must provide all of their own equipment, except for the cylinder.
The Following is a Non-exhaustive List of Equipment That is Not Allowed
- Dive knives
- Cameras
- DSMBs
- Side-mounts
- Torches
- Snorkels
- DPVs
- Slates
- Equipment bags.
Volunteers are required to commit to a minimum of 12 volunteer dives within the calendar year, and will be attended by an ABQ BioPark staff member at all times during their shift.
