South Broadway Cultural Center: one of Albuquerque's best-kept secrets.
An architectural and artistic jewel, South Broadway Cultural Center features a 300+ seat theater, art gallery, a large community meeting and event room, and a library.
Previously a small storefront with minimal but wonderful performing space and a library that was created to serve the immediate community, in late 1992 the old storefront was demolished and cleared away to make room for the new facility, which opened on April 14, 1994, and since that time has become an artistic center in the South Broadway community. Though the facility has gone through many changes throughout the years, it still remains one of the greatest kept secrets in Albuquerque.
The John Lewis Theater offers a wide variety of live entertainment throughout the year. The accessible, light Art Gallery features six curated shows each year that feature the work of talented area artists. A large Community Room that can be divided into a smaller space is a popular venue for meetings and events, large and small. .
Recent renovations have greatly enhanced viewing, sound and audience comfort in the John Lewis Theater, and a new large skylight in the Art Gallery, plus a new HVAC system, makes the Art Gallery an event more enjoyable space in which to view exciting art.
