Are You Concerned About Your Abuser Owning Guns?
- An Extreme Risk Firearm Protection Order (Also known as, E.R.F.P.O. or Red Flag Law) may be considered.
- This is a Civil Court Order that temporarily prevents a person from buying or possessing guns or other weapons if they are considered a danger to themselves or others.
- This can only be filed by law enforcement or the district attorney’s office
- Reach out to Law Enforcement with your concerns if your abuser:
- Has ever threatened or used guns or other weapons to assault you or someone else
- Has behavioral health concerns

Safety Planning For Leaving An Abusive Situation
Learn how law enforcement can help keep you safe while you get your belongings later.
Do not forget, you are not alone. A victim’s advocate can help you and can provide resources and safety planning for you to get out safely.
- If you or your children are in immediate danger, call 911.
- If planning on leaving, keep items in a safe place until you are able to leave safely, or until you are ready. If you need to leave quickly, safety first.
- Take your children with you unless there is a court order stating you cannot take them.
- Take your pets if you are able

- Birth Certificates
- Social Security Cards
- Driver’s License or Other Photo ID
- Immigration Paperwork
- Marriage Certificate
- Divorce Papers
- Custody Orders
- Legal Protection or Restraining Orders
- Health Insurance Papers or Medical Cards
- Important Contact Information
- Records and Account Numbers
Other Helpful Items to Have if Available: (only if able)
- Funds like cash, credit cards, etc.
- Access keys for house, car, post office box, etc.
- Medications for you or your children
- Eye Glasses
- Other medically necessary devices
- Phone charger
- Small items like, pictures, keepsakes, items for your kids, etc. to help you cope with your new arrangements
