Harwood Lateral Trail & Dog Park

Sept. 2025 Update

An aerial map of the area on the north east corner of 8th street and Cherokee Rd NW where Harwood Lateral/Acequia Dog Park will be. The map shows where features will be. These features are listed on the page below.

Features

  • The park will be about 50 ft wide and 170 ft long.
  • Remove the existing vence in 4 locations near the south side of the park.
  • Black vinyl 4-ft high chain link fencing with wire mech 18 inches high around the park.
  • Black vinyl chain link double entry gates at the southeast and northwest sides of the park.
  • New bearsavers trash can and mutt mitt station just south of the eastern vehicle gate.
  • Two 8-ft gates for 16-ft vihicular manientance access loaction on the center of the east side of the park.
  • New 10-ft x 10 ft shade structure (Coverworx) embede 4 posts centered east to west over concrete pad with surface mount bench 6- ft with center armrest in the southeast part of the park 30 ft from the southern fence line.
  • An existing guywire halfway between the shade structure and the west fence.

Outside of the gated park there will be

  • an 8ft asphalt trail,
  • a 4ft fines path,
  • 5-ft of wood chips with a 2-ft swale followed by 5-ft of woodchips.
  • An existing pipe gate will be kept and locked just north of the southeast entrance.
  • Note: the existing concrete sidewalk will be powerwashed

July 2025 Update

There are 2 concepts for the park

Concept 1

Concept 1 Features

  • Straight linear path, 10' wide, 1,184 ft long.
  • Enrichment Areas: Widest areas with enough space for landscaping buffer and amenities like play areas, exercise areas, shaded seating, etc.
  • Enrichment Areas kept on West side of path.
  • Bike path kept to East side, buffered away from amenities by slower walking path.
  • 40 x 80' fenced dog play area (3,038 SF, 225 LF fence)
  • 15' tree and landscaping buffer from residential fences
  • Enrichment Area #1: 60' x 30'
  • Enrichment Area #2: 100' x 35'
  • Enrichment Area #3: 100' x 35'

Concept 2 Features

  • Curved path, 10' wide, 1,221 ft long
  • Enrichment Areas: Widest areas with enough space for landscaping buffer and amenities like play areas, exercise areas, shaded seating, etc.
  • Enrichment Areas on both sides of path.
  • Bike path kept to West side; curves encourage lower speeds.
  • 45' x 80' fenced dog play area (3,097 SF, 239 LF fence)
  • 15' tree and landscaping buffer from residential fences
  • Enrichment Area #1: 40' x 30'
  • Enrichment Area #2: 100' x 35'
  • Enrichment Area #3: 100' x 35'
