Creighton Park

View the proposed plan for a new Taylor Ranch Park

Park and recreation enhancements are planned for this vacant property located in Taylor Ranch.  The property was acquired for park purposes, but because of the presence of Mariposa Basin Park nearby, was not developed.

The proposed park features a pedestrian/bicycle trail that winds through native shrubs, creating an immersive and ecologically sensitive landscape experience.  Visitors can enjoy lookout points with stunning views of the mountains and the city, along with an enjoyable playground to serve families in the area.

The project team is currently conducting civil and hydrological engineering studies to establish appropriate trail grades and to evaluate whether an existing stormwater retention basin can be filled in to accommodate the playground. This approach would allow the playground to be placed outside the neighborhood’s primary line of sight while ensuring compliance with grading, drainage, and safety requirements.

The Parks & Recreation Department is currently accepting comments on the Creighton Park concept. Please contact Hannah Shea,  [email protected].  Please send comments by January 31, 2026.

Path Comments

  • 8’ asphalt path to be designed per existing natural grades
  • Contractor to evaluate the existing grades and determine the path alignment using the existing topography and considering the least possible disturbance to the site and its vegetation. GPS can be very helpful
  • Please research and confirm the optimal asphalt depth based on the soil structure and behavior to avoid crackings or shiftings - Geotechnial Engineer

General Comments

  • Avoid choillas and prickly pears as much as possible
  • Consider moving and transplanting the vegetation during construction phase if need be
  • Provide native vegetation and trees around proposed developed areas of the site including the playground and view platforms
  • Provide natural looking shade structures
  • Signage with information on the plants and city views can be provided at the view destinations

Drainage Comments

  • Civil Engineer to evaluate the drainage condition of the site and provide drainage management plan and relevant calculations to determine the functioning capacity of the ‘desilting pond’ and confirm the possibility of the pond being filled in for development without creating drainage issues
