Meet the Team

NicholeRogers.jpegThe African American Community and Business Leader Liaison position was established in 2020 to help with two-way communication with the African American community, business, and youth leaders in the City. In April 2021, Mayor Tim Keller appointed Nichole Rogers as the city's new African-American Community and Business Leader Liaison.

Rogers joins the City with experience in both the public and private sectors. Previously she served as a Staff Development Specialist with UNM Hospitals in the Department of Nursing Excellence. She has been active in the community as an organizer and as an advocate for Black children and families in Albuquerque, including helping to plan Juneteenth celebrations, vaccination outreach events and other community issues. She received her associate’s degree from Central New Mexico Community College. Rogers was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico, and has lived in Albuquerque for 28 years.

Rogers was instrumental in helping the City get a complete count for the 2020 Census, having done extensive outreach and education in the African American community about why answering the census was so important. 

She succeeds Scott Carreathers in the role, who was appointed by Mayor Keller in July 2020 and was the first person appointed to this position. Carreathers will continue in a consulting role to help the City launch a mentorship program called It Takes a Village, which is funded by the New Mexico State Legislature through Rep. Sheryl Williams-Stapleton and Sen. Harold Pope.

MemarIvy.jpgMemar Ivy is an International Studies student at the University of San Francisco, and is a part of the Americorps Vista program assigned to the Office of Equity and Inclusion.  Memar is working with Nichole Rogers on setting up the new office to improve the lives of black  community. Memar is a third time  intern with the City of Albuquerque and we hope to have her back next summer!
