Performers
Mariachi Tenampa
Mariachi Tenampa, founded in Santa Fe in 1971 by Don Miguel Ojeda Sr. and his family, has become one of New Mexico’s most iconic mariachi ensembles. Named in honor of the legendary Tenampa bar in Plaza Garibaldi, they quickly earned the title “New Mexico’s Premier Mariachi.”
Relocating to Albuquerque in the mid‑1980s under Alfredo Gurulé, they became a beloved fixture at Garduño’s restaurants and a vibrant part of the state’s cultural scene. Their music has taken them from New Mexico to Washington, D.C., Guam, and Greece, proudly representing the region’s Mexican heritage.
With over fifty years of history, hundreds of songs, and a strong commitment to youth music education, Mariachi Tenampa continues to preserve and celebrate the rich tradition of mariachi for new generations.
Darren Cordova Y Calor
The Cordova family of Taos, New Mexico, is one of the state’s most enduring musical dynasties. Their legacy began when Joe Nerio Cordova returned from a brief musical hiatus to form Los Cordovas with his sons Daryl, Darren, and Danial. Darren and Danial later created their own groups, and a third generation soon followed.
From a high school mariachi program came the birth of Mariachi Calor, led by Darren’s children—Darren Lee, Dynette Marie, Evan, and Ryan. Together, the Cordova family has recorded more than forty albums, and Mariachi Calor has become a standout feature of Darren Cordova’s already celebrated performances.
In recognition of their lasting impact on New Mexico music, the Cordova Family was inducted into the New Mexico Music Hall of Fame in 2021.
