ABQ BioPark Job Opportunity: Assistant Project Coordinator (Safety Sensitive-shuttle)

The ABQ BioPark’s guest experience team is seeking friendly, helpful and customer-focused team leaders to serve as Guest Operations Specialist at the Zoo, Aquarium and Botanic Garden.

Successful candidates enjoy going above and beyond to welcome BioPark guests and ensure that all guests have a fun, safe and educational visit. Guest operations specialists report to the admissions supervisors and are part of the guest experience department.

Guest Operations Specialists duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating a team of guest experience staff to serve guests beyond the front gates, including tram operations, education program assistance, private event rentals and monitoring indoor exhibits
  • Driving the 60-passenger tram safely to transport guests between the Zoo and Aquarium/Garden
  • Connecting guests with nature by narrating a variety of education programs and animal encounters
  • Ensuring guest safety by performing daily safety inspections and communicating BioPark rules
  • Training guest experience crew members, monitoring their performance and communicating regularly with supervisors
  • Providing exceptional customer service in person, online and over the phone by selling tickets, answering questions, directing guests and sharing in-depth knowledge of BioPark operations and policies
  • Interacting with a large number of guests while maintaining a professional, calm demeanor and while sitting, standing or walking for long periods of time
  • Helpfully resolving guest issues to reach a win-win outcome
  • Working in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments in all types of weather
  • Supporting the New Mexico BioPark Society through membership sales and event assistance
  • Handling money and strictly adhering to all cash handling procedures
  • Working on weekends, evenings and holidays

Preferred qualifications

Guest operations specialists must be 18 years or older and have basic computer proficiency. They must possess a valid New Mexico driver’s license and successfully obtain a City Operator’s Permit after hire. Candidates must be physically able to lift or move up to 30 pounds (stanchions, light barriers). Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus. Candidates must pass a background check in order to work at the BioPark.

Work schedule

Full-time positions available. All positions require weekend and seasonal evening work. Shifts are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a 30 minute lunch.

Pay rate

$15.52 per hour. Guest Operations Specialists are employed through a staffing agency, not the City of Albuquerque.
