ALBUQUERQUE – Oscar Valdez, 29, has been arrested and charged for a shooting that occurred at a North Valley bar.

On September 1, 2022 officers in the Valley Area Command were dispatched to Leo’s Nightclub located at 1119 Candelaria Road N.W. for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they noticed several spent casings and impacts outside of the business. They also spotted blood inside the club near the bathroom along with parts to a firearm.

The DJ stated an unknown male began arguing with him and then pulled out a firearm and began firing rounds into the club. The DJ along with other occupants of the club helped to successfully disarm the shooter.

After some of the individuals who disarmed the shooter fled the scene, the shooter went to a vehicle and pulled out a shotgun pointing it at a witness. When the witness stated the individuals who disarmed him left, the shooter got into the car and left.

Shortly after, Oscar Valdez called police to report he’d been shot. Officers had him transported to the hospital where he explained he’d been jumped at the club and shot.  However, video evidence from the club showed several females fighting and a male trying to break it up. While the male attempted to break up the females, Oscar Valdez is seen striking the male in the head with a firearm multiple times and then firing it into the air. From that point, the altercation ensues when the DJ and other witnesses began to disarm Valdez.

Although Oscar did have a gunshot wound, it’s unclear how that shooting occurred or if the gun went off as he was being disarmed.

Valdez was positively identified by witnesses from a photo array and has been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Shooting at or From a Motor Vehicle, Unlawful carrying of a firearm in licensed liquor establishments, and Brandishing of Firearm.
