Investigators determined that the driver of the vehicle, an adult male, was traveling west on Candelaria, struck the median and went onto the median. The driver appears to have tried to recover the vehicle back to westbound traffic by turning right. The vehicle then rolled onto the driver’s side and continued rolling northwest across Candelaria into the guard rail on the bridge over Embudito Arroyo. The vehicle then went over the railing into the arroyo landing on its roof, facing north in the arroyo.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle as it went into the arroyo. He land in the arroyo west of the vehicle. He was transported from the scene in critical condition.

Witnesses on the scene stated that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed. No other occupants were seen in the vehicle. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.  However, debris from the vehicle did fly into the back windshield of a second vehicle. No one was injured in the second vehicle

Due to driver’s injuries, officers were unable to determine if he was impaired by any substance.  The speed of the vehicle was determined to be the primary factor of the crash.
