APD disrupts street racing, arrests driver of Challenger that reached speeds of 120 mph
ALBUQUERQUE – APD’s Motor Team arrested Jacobi Carrillo overnight after the department’s police helicopter followed an orange Dodge Challenger as it fled from officers conducting a street racing operation.
The Challenger was initially spotted Friday night in the parking lot of Goodwill near San Mateo Blvd and Osuna Rd., N.E. Once the driver noticed officers, the vehicle left the parking lot in a reckless manner. APD’s helicopter, Air 2, followed the vehicle for nearly 30 minutes as it reached speeds of 120 mph. The driver drove dangerously through the city, sometimes driving on the shoulder to pass other vehicles. Officers noted the orange Challenger fled from officers during previous street racing operations.
The Challenger eventually ran out of gas in the area of 51st St. and Quail Rd., N.W. The driver, identified as Carrillo, 26, began to flee on foot but officers were nearby and arrested the driver for reckless driving among other charges.
