APD arrests man for murder of his father

ALBUQUERQUE – APD homicide detectives arrested Joseph Cruz Banuelos, Jr., for the murder of his father, Joseph Banuelos, Sr.

Officers were called this morning to a home at 4321 Grande Dr., N.W. where they located a deceased man, later identified as Banuelos, Sr., 55, who suffered several stab wounds. Neighbors reported hearing a disturbance overnight and saw 28-year-old Joseph Banuelos, Jr., yelling in the middle of the street. A neighbor said that was normal behavior for Banuelos, Jr.

The father and son lived together at the home on Grande Dr.

Officers were notified shortly after 2 p.m. today that Laguna Pueblo police took Banuelos, Jr., into custody at the Route 66 Travel Center, west of Albuquerque. Banuelos, Jr., showed up at the gas station covered in blood and said he killed his father. APD Officers took custody of Banuelos, Jr., and transported him to a substation where he was questioned by homicide detectives.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant and charged Banuelos, Jr., with an open count of murder. He is being booked into the Metro Detention Center.
