April 07, 2026

One of the city’s most comprehensive information resources just got a major upgrade. Updates to the Advanced Map Viewer include:

  • Refreshed look and feel, including visual links that match the Integrated Development Ordinance interactive map
  • 2024 aerial photography
  • Historical aerial photography, including newly available imagery from 1974
  • The most up-to-date ABQ RIDE routes and stops
  • Regional datasets from the Mid-Region Metropolitan Planning Organization
  • New layer themes to narrow the list of more than 200 data layers

“This is an impactful tool that thousands of people use because it has dozens of different types of data available for any piece of land in Albuquerque,” said Planning Department Director Alan Varela. “It’s actually quite fascinating.”

Current usage statistics from the Advanced Map Viewer 3.0 show more than 1,900 active users, with numbers steadily increasing since its release.

The original viewers were launched in 2013 to provide an interactive mapping platform for the public, staff and decision-makers. The platform made geospatial data analysis and location-based information more accessible to a broader audience than previously published static or paper maps.

Users can explore dozens of data layers, find property information, create custom maps and conduct basic analysis from their fingertips without assistance from a geographic information system expert.
