Description
Albuquerque's Kubatana Marimba Southwest has been playing lively Zimbabwe-style music for 20 years, led by director Amy Robinson. We play seven wooden marimbas, ranging from smaller sopranos to a large bass marimba, with vocals, drum, hosho (shakers) and the mbira ("thumb piano"). Many of our songs are based on the complex rhythms of traditional mbira music and are great for dancing. We enjoy playing for community events and benefit concerts. Our proceeds are used to pay our teachers and to donate to the Zimbabwean non-profit, Tariro, whose mission is the education of disadvantaged girls.
