Today, City Councilor Klarissa Peña is excited to announce the completion of the lighting project across the Central Ave. bridge between Tingley Dr. and Sunset Road. The festoon lighting features bulbs on cables that stretch across the sidewalks of the bridge over the Rio Grande River.

“This lighting adds a festive character to the bridge as commuters cross the river to get to West Central or going eastward, to the Old Town and Downtown areas,” said Councilor Peña. “The lighting can also add to public safety, as it makes the bridge much more visible.”

Festoon lighting has been featured in other areas of Albuquerque and will now be on one of the higher traffic areas by motorists, bicyclists, and transit riders, along Route 66.

The project was completed by Dalkia EDF Group, which included installing eighteen aluminum poles, nine on each side, to mount the lighting to. The total cost for the project was $87,702.54 and was funded by Council District 3 Set-Aside funds.
