Albuquerque City Council Recognizes National Recovery Month, Honors Local Advocates
Proclamation underscores the value of recovery in strengthening families and community.
ALBUQUERQUE, NM — At tonight’s City Council Meeting, City Council President Klarissa J. Peña formally recognized September 2026 as National Recovery Month. This recognition underscores that the City of Albuquerque recognizes that recovery strengthens individuals, families, and communities, and affirms that every person deserves the opportunity to pursue a healthy, meaningful, and fulfilling life.
To mark the occasion, City Council President Peña welcomed three distinguished representatives who attended the meeting on behalf of the greater Albuquerque recovery community: Jeremy Lihte, NM Leaders in Recovery; Jennifer Burke, Serenity Mesa Youth Recovery; and David Burke, Serenity Mesa Youth Recovery.
"National Recovery Month is an important time to celebrate the milestones of those in recovery and to thank the dedicated individuals and organizations who make that journey possible," said City Council President Klarissa J. Peña. "We are incredibly grateful to Jeremy Lihte, Jennifer Burke, David Burke, and the teams at NM Leaders in Recovery and Serenity Mesa. Their tireless work provides life-saving resources, guidance, and hope to our youth and adults navigating the path to recovery here in Albuquerque."
As part of the month's observances, the 11th Annual Albuquerque Celebrates Recovery event will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, on Civic Plaza. This upcoming gathering will bring together individuals, families, community organizations, service providers, and public partners to celebrate recovery, share hope, and recognize the strength and resilience of our community.
The Albuquerque City Council encourages all residents to join in celebrating recovery, supporting those on their recovery journeys, reducing stigma, and building a community where every person can heal, connect, and thrive.
