City Invites Community to Join Route 66 Adopt-A-Streetscape Program Launch Event

The City of Albuquerque is inviting neighborhood groups, community organizations, and local clubs to take part in a new initiative to prepare for the upcoming Route 66 Centennial Celebration. City Council President Klarissa J. Peña, in partnership with City’s Solid Waste Department, Transit Department, and Office of Civic Engagement will officially launch the Route 66 Adopt-A-Streetscape Program with a community-wide registration event.
The program empowers local groups to take an active role in beautifying and maintaining stretches of historic Route 66 while building community pride and engagement.
Residents are encouraged to attend the upcoming One-Stop Shop Registration Event:

This interactive event offers a streamlined, hands-on opportunity for participants to get fully registered and connected with City resources in a single evening. Attendees will be guided step-by-step through the process of adopting a streetscape segment along Route 66.
At the event, participants will be able to:
• Meet directly with City staff and program coordinators
• Select their preferred stretch of Route 66 to adopt
• Complete all necessary registration requirements on-site
• Create volunteer accounts through the One Albuquerque Volunteer Portal to track their impact
• Receive a program roadmap outlining next steps and expectations
• Participate in a brief training session
• Begin planning community programming, cleanups, and stewardship activities
• Learn about signage opportunities for their adopted area
• Help shape the program by voting on its official name
• Access outreach materials to recruit additional participants
“With the Route 66 Centennial approaching, this program is a meaningful way for our community to come together, take pride in our City, and play a direct role in preparing one of Albuquerque’s most iconic corridors,” said Council President Peña.
The Route 66 Adopt-A-Streetscape Program is designed to make it easy for community members to get involved while creating lasting improvements along the historic corridor.
