F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu is one of the most re-scored films in history! Many of its elements endure, more than a hundred years later, as touchstones in contemporary supernatural storytelling This screening of Nosferatu (1922) features an original score composed by the ensemble and performed live. High school students in Explore Academy's Media Ensemble collaborated to create themes and harmonic ideas to give characters and otherworldly forces their own musical identities. Students also amassed a collection of cinematic noises and extended technques on their instruments that they use to create an ominous - and occasionally comical - soundscape for the spooky classic. Each performer was responsible for scoring two scenes, and they worked in teams to connect the film's five acts into a sonic narrative that showcases their unique skills as individuals and chemistry as a group.
