Thousands of Burqueños Ready to Shine Bright at Twinkle Light Parade

Family-friendly tradition lights up a mile-long stretch of Route 66.
December 10, 2024

A holiday favorite for Albuquerque families, the magical Twinkle Light Parade, will light up Nob Hill on Saturday, December 14 beginning at 5:15 p.m. This year’s sparkling spectacle will feature 125 entries, including marching bands, fire trucks, big box trucks, show vehicles, dance groups, and more, all vying for the prestigious Best in Show title.

“This is a holiday tradition that Albuquerque families really look forward to every year, including my own," said Mayor Tim Keller. "It brings us all together to create lasting memories, a time to shine for community, business and all of us."

Central Avenue, from Washington Street to Girard Boulevard, will transform into a mile-long celebration of lights and holiday cheer. To enhance the festive atmosphere, Central Avenue will close to traffic at 3 p.m., allowing attendees to enjoy Nob Hill’s eclectic mix of shops, galleries, and restaurants before and after the event.

With the enthusiastic participation of more than 4,000 individuals representing local businesses, nonprofits, schools, community groups, and families, this year’s parade promises to be the most radiant yet.

"Our friends and our families have participated every year in the Twinkle Light for the last 12 years. We all get together a month in advance to start building decorations, and lighting up our vehicles," said Jessie Brown of Los Burros. "See us this year on the "Juice is on the Loose," a Beetlejuice themed party float."

This free family-friendly event will take place rain or shine. For added convenience, UNM is offering a Park & Ride service with free parking available at the southwest corner of Lomas Boulevard and University Boulevard. Shuttle buses will run from 3 p.m. to Johnson Field and back, operating throughout the event until 10:30 p.m. Johnson Field is near Girard and the end of the parade route.

The Twinkle Light Parade is sponsored by iHeart Media.
