Therapeutic Recreation Before & After School Program (School Year)

Availability

Programs are available at the schools listed below. Before and after school hours are 7 a.m. until classes begin, then from school dismissal until 6 p.m. Children in kindergarten through 5th grade are eligible, including students in Special Education.

Heights Community Center is an after school program site only and serves students from any APS school. Heights Community Center serves K–12. Transportation is provided from Lowell Elementary School only.

Please check with your child’s school for a schedule to learn when the school day begins and ends and which days are in-service days and holidays.

Registration

Register on-site at Mark Twain or McCollum during program hours, or at the Heights Community Center's administration office, Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please call 505-848-1334 for more information.

In-person registration is required, as well as on-line registration.

Registration is limited.

If there is no space available, you can put your child's name on a waiting list.

Children with disabilities will be given priority.

A completed registration form is required for any and all children who attend this program.

For safety reasons, if there is no registration form for a child, the child will not be allowed to participate in the program.


Recreation Access Program

Therapeutic Recreation Programs provide recreation programming support at after school programs and summer programs at CABQ community centers around town. We will take referrals for participants with disabilities who would like to attend City recreation programs.

Eligibility Criteria

All the above registration requirements apply in addition to the following criteria:

  • Children in Kindergarten through age 14
  • Willing to attend a Community Center program
  • Adherence to all Community Center rules

  • Register for Community Center or PLAY+ Program
  • Referral through the Community Center or PLAY+ Program by calling 505-764-1525
  • Assessment of needs
  • Placement
  • Evaluation
  • Monitoring
