Roller Skate City is More Than Just a Roller Rink
Councilor Don Harris is pleased to announce to Albuquerque's roller-skating fans that Roller Skate City will open November 6th, 2009. Roller Skate City will be taking over where Roller King left off and with a completely renovated building. New fixtures at the recently renovated roller rink include a brand new skating surface, state of the art sound system and light show, video game arcade, and a skating retail shop. Other cosmetic improvements include new wall carpet, fluorescent black light floor carpet, ceramic tile, completely updated bathrooms and beautiful new custom rental skates.
Rescue Unit for Station 8
City Councilors Don Harris and Rey Garduño have introduced a bill that would fund a rescue unit for Fire Station 8, located in the Foothills. The bill, which will come before the Council at its Sept. 9 meeting, would allocate $380,000 from the photo enforcement fund to establish the rescue unit.
Engine Revving Now A Fineable Offense
At its Aug. 3 meeting, the City Council voted 6-3 to amend the vehicle nuisance ordinance to include engine revving.
Councilor Harris Introducing Bill to Clean-up Tijeras Arroyo
City Councilor Don Harris is proposing legislation that would call for the removal of certain non-native trees and debris from the Tijeras Arroyo open space, another step in beautifying Albuquerque’s oldest, largest arroyo.
I-25 and Paseo del Norte Funding Resolution
City Councilor Debbie O’Malley will introduce legislation on Monday to dedicate $20 million from the City of Albuquerque’s quarter-cent Transportation Infrastructure Tax for the design and construction of I-25 and Paseo del Norte Interchange improvements and the development of an arterial street over the Domingo Baca Arroyo.
Councilor Benton Elected Chair of Rio Metro
On June 16, 2009, City Councilor Isaac Benton was unanimously elected to serve as the Chair of Rio Metro, the Regional Transit District Board. He has been Vice Chair of the board for the past two years. Terese Ulivarri, City Councilor of Belen, was elected Vice Chair.
UNM Parking Structure That Will Impact Historic Neighborhoods
At the June 1, 2009 City Council meeting, District 3 City Councilor Isaac Benton will ask the Council to consider a resolution to require the University of New Mexico to participate in talks with the City and neighborhood representatives about the impacts of a proposed parking structure and health clinic that the university wants to build at the western edge of its main campus.
Unanimous Election for Council President Isaac Benton
The Albuquerque City Council unanimously elected a new President, Vice-President, and Budget Chair on December 1, 2008.
Councilors Plan to Put Event Center to A Public Vote
City Councilors Isaac Benton and Debbie O’Malley plan to introduce legislation to ask voters whether the City should move forward with building the proposed Event Center Complex. The Complex is slated to include a 550-room headquarters hotel, a 10-11,000 seat Events Center, retail and residential development, and a tie-in to the Convention Center and Rail Runner station at the Alvarado Transportation Center.
Balloon Landing Site Purchase Resolution
Twenty-two acres of Vista del Norte is to be acquired as a balloon landing site and recreational field. Councilor Debbie O'Malley will introduce legislation that transfers funds from various Balloon Fiesta projects to City Council for the balloon landing site purchase.

Over the past year, a coordinated effort has been under way to acquire 420 acres of open space in the East Mountains.
City's Contract With Redflex Outrages Councilors
City Councilors have learned that the contract negotiated with Redflex to manage the City’s Safe Traffic Operations Program was grossly inconsistent with the Recommendation of Award that the Council approved in 2005.
