Playground Recreation Before and/or After School Program

The Playground Recreation Program offers before and/or after school recreation programs for children 6 through 11 years old years of age at various elementary schools during the school year.  These programs provide planned, organized and supervised activities designed to meet the recreational needs of children that attend. 

 

Before and/or After School Program Dates

These programs normally begin the first day of school and continue through the last day of school.  Starting and ending dates for each school vary, so contact your school to verify school starting and ending dates. Click here for

Our Playground Recreation Program follows the Albuquerque Public Schools schedule.  The days that school is closed we also will be closed.

 

Before and/or After School Program Registration Information

Registration for this program is limited and registration is held on a first come first serve basis.  If you are not able to register on the first day of registration, you will still be allowed to register your child in the program at any time during the regular program hours, provided there is still space available for additional participants.  Once a site registration is full, a waiting list will be kept and maintained for participants not selected.  Parents will be notified as space becomes available.  A completed registration form is required on any and all children that attend the program. For safety reasons, if we do not have a registration form, the child will not be allowed to attend this program.

 

Before and/or After School Program Hours and Fees

The Before School Recreation Program Hours are normally from 7am until the time school starts Monday through Friday.  The After School Recreation Program Hours are normally after school until 6pm Monday through Friday.  This Program is not free, please see table below.

Note: A non-refundable registration fee is required for all registered participants.

Some participants may qualify for reduced fees.  See the site supervisor for more information.  Full program fees will be charged until reduced fee qualification is determined.

 

Late Fee Charge – If a child is picked up after 6pm (program end time), parents will be charged $15.00 per child for each 30 minutes after 6pm.  If a child is at the recreation site for a portion of the 30 minutes the charge will be for the entire 30 minutes.  The charge must be paid at the time the child is being picked up from the program.

Days that the Before and/or After School Program will be closed

Our Before and/or After School Recreation Program follows the Albuquerque Public Schools schedule.  The days that schools are closed the program we will also be closed. 

Additionally, we will not have the Playgrounds Recreation Program on the following days:

  • Labor Day
  • Fall Recess
  • Thanksgiving Break
  • Winter Recess
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • President’s Day
  • Spring Break
  • Vernal Holiday (Friday before Easter Sunday)
  • Independence Day

Note: These dates and other dates are subject to change.

The Recreation Program will also be closed on any other Albuquerque Public Schools Holiday that may not be listed above.  Please check with your school for other dates.

For income tax purposes, the City's Federal Tax ID Number (EIN) is 85-6000102.

Important Note: The Playground Recreation program does not provide year-end statements. Anytime a payment is made we do provide receipts and we suggest that participants of the program save those receipts for tax purposes. You may also use the chart above (Program Fees) as a guide to help you calculate your payments for the year.

The following Community Centers have free Tax Preparation Services during tax season:

  • Barelas Community Center -  848-1343 - Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is providing tax preparation daily from 9am - 12pm, beginning January 21.  This service is provided to low-income residents and is on a first-come first-served basis.
  • Taylor Ranch Community Center -768-6006 - AARP is providing tax preparation on Thursdays, from 1-4pm, beginning February 4 and ending April 14.  Anyone can participate by making an appointment.
