Animal Shelters Open for Juneteenth

Normal operations and free pet microchipping available

ALBUQUERQUE – The City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department (AWD) Eastside and Westside shelters will remain open with normal operations on Thursday, June 19.

As part of ongoing community services, AWD is offering FREE microchips for dogs and cats through Thursday, July 3, from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at both shelter locations. No appointment is necessary.

Thinking about adopting a pet? AWD’s experienced adoption counselors are ready to help you find the perfect match. Every adoption includes:

  • Spay or neuter.
  • Pet ID tag.
  • Microchip.
  • Vaccinations.
  • One free initial vet visit.
  • Bonus: One free basic dog training session.
