SATURDAY: Downtown to Shine with Concert on Central

Burque Live series continues to activate downtown, and create safe, affordable fun. Mayor Keller to Join GZA for Youth Chess Tournament.

ALBUQUERQUE - This Saturday, September 16th, 2023, Downtown Albuquerque will host music, food, art, crafts and more as the Burque Live event series continues with a free concert on Central.

The event will run from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. More information can be found at www.burquelive.com. Due to an incredible response to this programming in our downtown core, registration for the event has closed and is no longer available. Registration is required for entry and there will be no registrations available onsite. If you do not currently possess an event registration through Eventbrite, please do not plan to attend the event.

Entry to the event will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration does not guarantee entry to the event and the Fire Marshal will be monitoring capacity. Guests are encouraged to arrive early. When the Fire Marshal Capacity is reached, guests will be allowed into the event on a 1:1 basis as guests depart.

This is a family-friendly event. All ages are welcome, but any guests under 21 years of age MUST be accompanied by a parent, guardian or spouse.

Entrance to the event will be on Central Ave heading East from 8th St. Parking in the area will be extremely limited, so please plan accordingly. Attendees should plan to take public transportation (there are two bus stops right near the event), use ridesharing like Uber or Lyft, or utilize our bike valet open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Getting to the Event

Entrance to the event will be on Central Ave. heading East from 8th St.

Parking in the area will be extremely limited. Guests are advised to please plan accordingly and are strongly encouraged to utilize public transportation, ridesharing or our free bike valet.

The closest bus stops can be found on the ART line at 6th and Gold and 6th and Copper.

Ridesharing with Uber/Lyft

There will be two designated pickup/dropoff points for ridesharing at 7th and Gold and 7th and Copper.

 

Bike Valet

A free bike valet will be available to guests and can be found west of the entrance. This will be staffed with security during the event from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Traffic Plan

The event area will be impacted beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, September 15th. Central Ave. will be closed from approximately 8th Street to 5th Street. 7th, 6th and 5th Streets between Copper and Gold will also be closed. Regular traffic patterns will resume on Sunday, September 17th.

Event Rules and Information

Allowed Items:

  • Clear bag/totes – no larger than 12 x 6 x 12
  • Small clutch purse – no bigger than the palm of your hand 4.5 x 6.5
  • Fanny packs
  • Factory sealed water bottle – up to one gallon per person or empty bottle to fill inside
  • Cameras – nonprofessional photography only
  • Sunscreen
  • Small tote/parasol umbrellas
  • Strollers

Prohibited Items:

  • Weapons of any kind including guns, knives, pepper spray, brass knuckles, or anything with a sharp edge
  • Outside food or drink, except factory sealed water
  • Large bags/backpacks that aren’t clear
  • Alcohol or marijuana
  • Coolers of any kind
  • Illegal drugs/substances
  • Glass containers
  • Laser pointers
  • Animals (except registered service animals)
  • Fireworks
  • Large umbrellas
  • Lawn chairs
  • GoPros
  • Any other item deemed inappropriate by management

Burque Live Information

This year, Burque Live has partnered with local businesses to bring block parties, concerts, vintage movie nights, over 100 local live music performances and more to our downtown area. At the recent 2nd Street Block Party, over 1,500 Burqueños visited downtown for a safe, fun evening.

Upcoming events include EDo Walkable Wednesday, the Roundabout Block Party, and Vintage Movie Night in addition to weekly live music in the downtown area.

Youth Chess Tournament

 During his visit to Albuquerque, legendary hip-hop artist, GZA, is hosting a youth chess tournament. As part of this event, he will play chess with Mayor Keller and address attendees and their families.

Concert on Central

Burque Live, a program of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Redevelopment Department, will hold a concert on Central featuring legendary Hip Hop artist GZA.
