Explore Downtown
Downtown Albuquerque is where many of the city’s stories meet. It’s the center of government and business, and it’s also home to concerts, conventions, murals, nightlife, art walks, community celebrations, and the historic Route 66.
Downtown continues to grow and change, but its role remains the same: bringing people together and serving as a shared center for the city.
To help you find places to eat, shop, see art, or enjoy public spaces, Downtown ABQ MainStreet offers an interactive map of destinations throughout the district. It’s an easy way to plan a visit or find something new.
Community feedback through the Downtown 2050 process highlighted several consistent priorities: improving connectivity, making downtown easier to navigate, supporting redevelopment, and creating a more active and welcoming downtown experience.
Current efforts include:
Wayfinding and district identity
Parking and mobility improvements
Upgraded public spaces
Housing and redevelopment
Support for local businesses
Arts, culture, and placemaking

Downtown 2050 Redevelopment Plan
Downtown 2050 is a long-term plan guiding the future of Downtown Albuquerque. It focuses on housing, transportation, economic development, public spaces, and redevelopment within the Downtown Metropolitan Redevelopment Area. The plan was shaped through public meetings, surveys, stakeholder discussions, and community feedback gathered citywide throughout 2024.
Downtown Albuquerque is a designated TIF district, which means a portion of new tax revenue generated in the area can be reinvested back into downtown. A 2025 state law allows TIF districts to collect both property tax and gross receipts tax revenue within approved redevelopment areas, giving Albuquerque an additional tool to support major redevelopment projects and long-term investment across the city.
A new coordinated wayfinding system is being developed to make Downtown Albuquerque easier to navigate. Through clear signage, maps, district markers, and consistent visual cues, the system helps residents and visitors understand where they are and what’s nearby.
The recently completed Downtown Parking Study is helping the City think more strategically about parking, mobility, and access downtown. One key goal is creating a stronger “park once” environment where people can arrive downtown, park, and comfortably move between destinations on foot.
