One Albuquerque Youth Connect’s Teen Nights Are a Hit

Friday Teen Night Series attracting crowds of hundreds, offering teens opportunities to stay safe and engaged.

July 4, 2019

After a successful inaugural summer last year, One Albuquerque Youth Connect’s Teen Night series continues to grow in 2019, meeting a clear need in the community. The first two Teen Nights of the summer brought in record numbers for the program, with over 250 teens kicking things off at a Tropical Pool Party and more than 500 teens having fun with STEAM activities at the Teen Takeover of Explora.

“The enthusiastic response to our Teen Night events shows we’re meeting a clear need in our community,” Mayor Tim Keller stated. “We want to make sure young people have somewhere to go that’s interesting, safe and fun. Stepping up with opportunities like these is one way we can support families and teachers when kids aren’t in school. Many of our City departments came together to make Teen Nights happen, showing the spirit of One Albuquerque.”

Teens 12 to 19-years-old looking for something fun to do this summer are invited to Teen Night events nearly every Friday through September 27th. Each Teen Night has different themed activities and takes place at a different location across the city.

“The number of attendees coming and having fun at Teen Nights so far just reinforces the value of coming together to serve our city’s youth,” stated Community Services Division Manager for Family and Community Services, Cristin Chavez-Smith. “We’re aiming to continue this trend in the quality events we have lined up for the rest of the summer.”

Youth Connect has organized a wide variety of events to appeal to many different interests and hobbies, while providing the opportunity to explore something new. This year, partner organizations include Warehouse 508, Explora, Roller King, Art Hub, Aaron’s Rentals, Kona Ice, NM United, as well as local artists and performers.
