Albuquerque City Council has New Leadership for the 27th Term

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Tonight, during the first meeting of the new year, the Albuquerque City Council held elections to determine leadership positions for the 27th City Council. The Council is pleased to announce the election of their fellow members to key leadership roles.

The Council extends its sincere congratulations to these dedicated public servants as they step into their roles to guide the City’s legislative priorities and fiscal oversight for the coming year.

City Council President - Klarissa J. Peña, District 3

"I am deeply honored by the trust my colleagues have placed in me to lead the 27th City Council. As we begin this new year, my focus remains on fostering collaboration across all districts to address our city’s most pressing challenges. Together, we will work toward a safer, more equitable, and prosperous Albuquerque for every resident."

City Council Vice President - Dan Champine, District 8

I look forward to supporting President Peña and working closely with my fellow Councilors to ensure our legislative process is transparent, efficient, and responsive to the needs of our community. Committee of the Whole Budget Chair - Renée Grout, District 9

Standing committee assignments for all Council members will be selected by the Council President and will be formally approved during the next scheduled City Council Meeting on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
