A letter of support

Good morning Mr. Martinez,

Longfellow Elementary School is completing our first year with a city run before/after school program.

I would like to thank you and the city for being such big supporters of the before/after school programs in our public schools. The program at Longfellow Elementary is excellent. The program has grown tremendously since the city took over and the parent response has been highly positive. Our children enjoy coming to this program and attendance has been high. Academic and social enrichment is a large part of this program, however it is so much more than this and it keeps all children engaged and excited about learning.

The staff that work our program have been excellent with our children, showing kindness, and a desire to work with young children. They are attentive to children’s needs, and the ration of adults to children has always been excellent.

A special feature of this program that has supported parents ,is the cost of this care. Parents have been very appreciative of the cost, giving them the ability to take advantage of this much needed care. Parents also love the security and protection that this program offers them by being housed in our school and having access to our school building and its resources.

By having such an outstanding program, it has helped give parents of our community an opportunity to see how our city is helping our children and how they(city) are involved and working with our public schools.

What a wonderful joint project this program is.

What a wonderful example our city and our leaders set for your own children, our citizens and others in the area of community and school service.

On behalf of our 300 students, staff, parents and the Martineztown community, I thank you Mr. Martinez for all of you support toward our program and school.   I also applaud our mayor,  Mr. Keller for his efforts to support our public schools and welcome his future plans.

Richard B. Ulibarri,

Principal, Longfellow Elementary School
