Recycling

The Solid Waste Management Department is committed to helping maintain a healthy environment for Albuquerque's current and future generations.

Do Your Part with Your Cart

  • Set carts out by 7 a.m., remove from street within 24 hours.
  • Place wheeled cart at least five feet away from other carts, mailboxes, fire hydrants, parked cars, low hanging trees, or utility poles so trucks can easily access the cart.
  • Place trash and recycle carts with the wheels and handles toward the curb. Trash and recycle carts should be placed in the street.
  • Do not place hazardous waste in your trash or recycle cart. See Household Hazardous Waste for more information.
  • Do not put medications in the trash. See Disposal of Pharmaceuticals for more information.
  • Do not put construction or demolition waste.
  • Do not put yard waste in your recycle cart.
  • Do not put recycling in plastic bags, but put shredded paper in clear plastic bags.

Missed Recycle Pick-Ups

If your recyclables are not picked up on your regular collection day, call 311. Pick-ups will be made within 24 hours or the next business day.

Recycling is collected every week on your designated collection day. Download the Recycle Coach app to view your residential collection schedule.

Recycle Drop-Off Sites

Recycling and glass are collected at our recycling drop-off sites throughout the city. Please flatten boxes before placing them in the bin. If the bins are full, please do not leave items on the ground.

If you are not sure what can be recycled you can find everything you need to know on our Accepted Materials page and by downloading the Recycle Coach app. Placing items in your blue recycle cart that are not recyclable can increase cost and labor for our sorting facility because they have to remove unwanted materials and send them to the landfill. Please flatten boxes before placing them in the bin. If the bins are full, please do not leave items on the ground.

Holiday Schedules

Recycling collection is delayed by one day for the following holidays:

  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas
  • New Year’s Day

If the holiday is observed on a weekend, no changes will occur to residential pick up. However, commercial pick up will be delayed by one day.
