UPDATE: APD investigating fatal vehicle crash

Officers in the Southeast Area Command responded to the crash shortly after 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, that resulted in the death of an adult male who was driving a moped.

APD’s Motors Unit determined through investigation that two mopeds were traveling eastbound on Central Ave., near Garcia St., S.E. Both mopeds lacked working headlights and taillights. A white Ford pickup truck was also traveling eastbound on Central Ave. approaching the mopeds. The truck crashed into the rear of one of the mopeds and pushed it a significant distance from initial impact. The driver of the truck fled the scene of the crash and was not located.

The driver of the moped has not yet been identified. The driver of the second moped stayed on scene and provide a statement to police.
