UPDATE: APD Investigating Fatal Crash on West Side

ALBUQUERQUE – APD’s Traffic Unit responded Thursday shortly after noon to a fatal crash at the intersection of Universe Blvd. and Paseo Del Norte NW.

Upon arrival officers learned that a white 2018 BMW SUV was traveling west on Paseo Del Norte and made a left hand turn to go south on Universe NW. The white BMW SUV was struck on the passenger side during the turn by a 2018 gray Jeep traveling east on paseo Del Norte NW.

During the on scene investigation it was learned the white BMW SUV was employed by UBER providing a ride service with a passenger in the right rear seat. The driver of the white BMW SUV was transported to UNMH for injuries sustained in the crash. His injuries were non-life threating. The rear passenger of the white BMW SUV succumbed to his injuries on scene. The driver of the Jeep was checked by rescue on scene and refused transport.

At this time alcohol does not appear to be a factor and it is possible speed may have been a factor. This is an active case and the investigation is ongoing. Charges at this time are unknown until the completion of the case.
