Traffic Crash Updates

July 9, 2022

On July 9th, 2022 at approximately 10:22a.m. the Motors Unit was called out to a serious Injury Crash located at Unser Blvd N.W. and Kimmick RD N.W.  During the investigation it was determined that two bicyclists were traveling northbound in the designated bike lane of Unser Blvd when they were struck from behind by grey Hyundai Sedan. 

 

The driver of the Hyundai fled the scene but was located in Rio Rancho by Sandoval County Deputies and Rio Rancho Police.  One of the two bicyclists were transported to UNMH for critical life threatening injuries.  He is currently in critical condition at this time.  The second bicyclists had minor injuries and was treated on scene.  The driver of the grey Hyundai was screened and arrested by an APD DWI Officer. 

 

This is an ongoing investigation.  At this point alcohol is believed to be a factor for this crash.  Charges will be pending for the driver of the grey Hyundai. 

 

 

On July 9th, 2022 at approximately 11:00a.m. the Motors Unit was called out to a serious Injury crash located at 6605 Anaheim Ave NE.  During the investigation it was determined that a male was taking a motorcycle for a test drive when he lost control of the motorcycle striking two unoccupied parked vehicles. 

 

The motorcycle rider was not wearing a helmet and was transported to UNMH for critical life threatening injuries.  This is an ongoing investigation.  At this point neither alcohol nor speed are considered factors for this crash.  

 

There are currently no charges pending at this time.
