Serious Injury Crash

Officers investigated a serious injury crash involving a pedestrian shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday in the area of Central Ave and 60th St.  A red 2005 Chevrolet truck was traveling westbound on Central Ave in the left lane and was approaching 60th St.  A male pedestrian was crossing Central Ave from the north to the south side of the street.  The male driver of the Chevrolet truck stated that he observed the male pedestrian crossing the street and he had crossed both lanes of westbound Central Ave and entered into the ART bus lane.  The driver stated that as the male pedestrian entered the bus lane, he suddenly turned around and entered into the left lane and bent down to pick up an item.  The driver was unable to avoid hitting the pedestrian and struck him with the left side of the vehicle.  The pedestrian sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to UNMH.  The pedestrian is listed in stable condition at this time.  Speed and alcohol were not a factor on the part of the driver of the Chevrolet truck.  The investigation is ongoing at this time
